Spectra FX

The Most Dramatic Color Changing Paint Available!
While color-changing paints have been available for many years, SpectraFX takes "color shifting " to a whole new level.
Traditional color-changing paints create a swirl of different colors when you look at them from different angles. SpectraFX is different from these paints in that it creates a true "chameleon" color shift from 1 distinct color to another. This controlled color shift creates a much more dramatic effect, so that 2 people looking at the same object will see two completely different colors.
This dramatic color shift is the result of special, patented crystal flakes instead of color pigments used in traditional color-changing paints. And Alsa has put the creative control of these amazing crystal flakes in the consumers hands, by selling the flakes themselves instead of pre-mixed paints. So you are free to add them to any type of clear paint or coating you would like and you can also adjust the amount of flakes used to change effects.

SpectraFX can be applied to products in many ways, including:

Sprayed On
Rolled On
Silk Screening
Injection Molded
Extruded
Applied like Printing Ink
Brushed On With Typical Paint Brushes
Powder Coated
Air Brushed

Creating your own SpectraFX paint is as simple as mixing in flakes to the clear paint or coating of your choice. The flakes will lay down evenly and won't clump up in any type of paint as long as you follow the directions on the can. And the intensity of the color flop can be controlled by simply adding more or less flakes.

However, it is important to realize that the color of the background you are applying the SpectraFX clear paint to will have a major impact on the final appearance. SpectraFX flakes absorb light, not reflect it. So very dark, opaque backgrounds create the most dramatic color changes since they do not reflect light back into the crystals. On very light backgrounds the SpectraFX clear coat may look more pearlescent.

How To Apply SpectraFX:
Step 1.- Prep and basecoat your piece as you would any other paintjob.
Step 2.- Mix SpectraFX at a ratio of 1 gr. per ounce of liquid using an inner coat clear, color blender, or even your final clear. 1 gr. per ounce will yield a high concentration of SpectraFX using more than this can actually decrease the overall look. However using less even ¼ to ½ gr. per ounce will still produce dramatic color change effects. (Try mixing various ratios and spraying them on sample panels until desired effects are achieved.)
Step 3.- Apply SpectrFX with one wet or two medium coats. (Again take caution here as to much will deaden the overall effect.)
Step 4.- Allow to dry before clearing with a poly-urethane clear or your choice of topcoats.
